Will I recieve training before the campers arrive?
When you arrive at camp, you’ll participate in training tailored to your specific role and learn about camp rules, policies, and the tools you’ll need to thrive. It’s natural to feel a bit overwhelmed at first, and that’s perfectly okay. Remember to talk to those around you and know that we’re always here to support you. Adjusting to your new environment may take up to two weeks, which is completely normal. Your adventure begins the moment you step outside your comfort zone!
What is my time-off schedule at camp?
Each camp is different in the way they structure time off, so check in with your camp about your time and days off.
Rules and Regulations
Why do I need to follow camp rules and regulations?
Adhering to your camp’s rules, policies, and philosophies ensures a successful summer experience for everyone. Pay attention during staff training to understand what’s expected.
Can I drink alcohol at camp?
No. The legal drinking age in Canada is 19, and underage drinking is taken seriously. Camps have strict no-alcohol policies—make sure you comply.
What is considered abuse, and how do I prevent it?
Abuse includes physical, sexual, emotional mistreatment, or neglect. Your camp will provide training on abuse prevention—listen carefully and follow their guidelines.
What happens if I’m caught with illegal drugs?
Possession or supply of illegal drugs will result in immediate dismissal, police involvement, and deportation. Camps enforce a zero-tolerance policy on Marijuana, even though it’s legal in Canada.
How does child protection work at camp?
Camps are committed to preventing abuse of children and vulnerable adults. Any inappropriate behavior will be reported to law enforcement. Understand and uphold these standards at all times.
What if I’m not meeting performance expectations?
Be prepared, punctual, and willing to improve. If you’re unsure about expectations, ask during training—it shows you care about doing a good job. If hired for a specific role, review your skills before arriving.
Can I smoke at camp?
Most camps prohibit smoking. Check your camp’s policy and follow it.
