What is Flagpoling?

Flagpoling is the nickname used when foreign nationals in Canada leave and immediately return without actually entering the United States. The purpose of this is to receive new temporary residence status (for example, getting a new work permit to work at a different camp, extending a current work permit, or activating an IEC).

Who needs to Flagpole?

  • If you are switching camps
  • If you are already in Canada as a tourist, on a study permit etc and need to switch to a work permit for camp
  • If you are looking to switch to another type of temporary status after camp (e.g an IEC).

Flagpoling Process

If you are currently in the Camp Canada program and believe one of the above scenarios relates to your current circumstances, please email workpermits@campcanada.ca.

We do not advise that you choose to flagpole before contacting Camp Canada directly, as there are additional steps to be aware of when flagpoling. We will advise you of the steps to take on a case-by-case basis.
