IEC Application Guide - Section One

5 min. readlast update: 10.20.2025

Welcome to the IEC Application guide for our Work and Travel Program. Please note that there will be two sections to our IEC Application guide:

Section 1: Submit your Profile to IRCC & Choose the Working Holiday pool
Section 2: Submit your application once you receive your ‘Invitation to Apply’ for the IEC work permit.

Once you have completed the steps in Section 1 below and your Camp Canada application has been moved to the ‘Ready to Hire’ stage, you will have the opportunity to start the interview process with camps.

Once you have received your Invitation to Apply (ITA) from the IRCC, please notify our team as soon as possible by uploading your ITA to your Camp Canada application under the ‘Documents’ section. You will then be provided with the details for Section 2 of our IEC Application Guide.

Please note that this is a guide only and the answers we have selected are just examples. Make sure you answer all questions honestly and accurately as they apply to you.

If you have any questions, please do not hesitate to contact us at communitysuccess@campcanada.ca

Section 1: Submit your Profile to IRCC & Choose the Working Holiday pool

1) Complete the Come to Canada questionnaire and get your personal reference code.

Complete the 'Find out if you are eligible to apply' Questionnaire here:
https://www.canada.ca/en/immigration-refugees-citizenship/services/come-canada-tool.html

Most of the questions are self-explanatory/personal information, but here are a few tips for some of the questions asked:

  • What would you like to do in Canada - “IEC Travel and Work
  • Do you have a letter proving one of these organizations will help you plan your trip or find work in Canada? - “No
  • Do you plan to do a work placement or internship in Canada as part of your studies? - “No
  • Do you have a signed letter of offer, contract of employment, or internship agreement from an employer in Canada? - “No

Once you complete the questionnaire you will receive a personal reference code that you will need in order to start your online work permit application. Please copy and write down this code (it is a combination of letters and numbers, that should look similar to this AB1234567890). Please see the screenshot above as an example.

2) Create your Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship Canada (IRCC) account. Select “Apply to come to Canada” and use your personal reference code to begin your application.

You will then need to follow the instructions to set up an account with IRCC:
https://www.canada.ca/en/immigration-refugees-citizenship/services/application/account.html

1) Please create an account by clicking on the ‘Register for an account’ button.

2) Select Option 1: Register with a GCKey username and password.

3) Please click the ‘Sign Up’ button and follow the steps to create a GCKey account username and password.

4) Please ensure you save these login details as you will be required to use your GCKey throughout the IRCC application process.

5) You will also be required to create Security questions for future logins to your account, please ensure you save your answers to use later.

3) Once you are logged in to your IRCC account, Select “Apply to come to Canada” and use your personal reference code to begin your application.

4) Submit your profile and choose the IEC pools you want to be in.

To submit your profile, you’ll need your passport. You’ll also need to provide details about your:

  • identity (full names, date of birth, place of birth etc.)
  • contact information

Please ensure that when you are submitting your application that you make note of the following:

  • Leave out any commas that separate your first or last names (if you have more than one first or last name). For example, use “Julie Louise Marie” if your first name is “Julie, Louise, Marie”.
  • Use English and French letters only.
  • If your passport uses other special letters or characters, use the letter without the accent. For example, use “z” instead of “ź.”

When you complete your profile, it is important that you submit your application to the Working Holiday pool.

Once you have submitted your application, you will receive a letter titled ‘Welcome to the Pool Letter’ in the messages section of your IRCC online account. Please upload this letter to your Camp Canada application on our portal under the “Documents” section.

If you are selected from the pool, you will receive an ‘Invitation to Apply Letter’ (ITA) from IRCC. Please upload this letter on your Camp Canada portal under the ‘Documents’ section as soon as possible. As mentioned earlier, our team will then provide you with our ‘IEC Application Guide - Section 2’ which will walk you through how to submit your IEC work permit application to IRCC.

As a reminder, being selected from the pool is random and is not guaranteed. It can take weeks to months to be selected, so it is important to frequently check your inbox and your IRCC account for updates. As this process has a tight turnaround time, please continue to update our team on your progress.
