You don’t need to have health insurance when you apply for your IEC, but you will need to have it before you arrive in Canada. Your health insurance must cover the entire time you plan to remain in Canada.

You should purchase 1 policy to cover the entire length of your work permit. If this isn’t possible, you can get 2 consecutive policies instead.

You must show proof of health insurance when you arrive in Canada. Camp Canada will cover you with up to 12 weeks of comprehensive health insurance, starting on the day you leave your home country.

You can also access discounted options for one or two years of comprehensive health insurance to cover a 12 to 24 month stay through Camp Canada, at an additional cost.

Your insurance must cover

  • medical care

  • Hospitalization

  • Repatriation

Before purchasing your policy, ask your provider what medical coverage is included.

If your insurance policy is valid for less than your expected stay, you will be issued a work permit that expires at the same time as your insurance.

If this happens, you will not be able to apply to change the conditions of your work permit at a later date.
