How long does it take for IRCC to process my work permit extension application?
The processing time of an online work permit extension application with IRCC can take several weeks to months. It is possible that you may not receive a decision on your application until after you have already completed your employment with camp and have returned home.
However, if you apply to extend your work permit before it expires, you’re legally allowed to stay in Canada and continue to work while the IRCC processes your application. This is called "maintained status."
