I missed the deadline to submit my online work permit application to IRCC. Do I need to leave Canada?
If you do not submit your application before your work permit expires, you will no longer be able to submit your application online and must stop working as you will no longer have legal status in Canada to work.
In most cases, the work permit "Expiry date" is also the date your temporary resident status expires in Canada. If this is the case, then you will no longer have legal status in Canada and must leave the country.
However, if there is a “Must leave Canada by” date on your work permit, then your status in Canada expires on the “Must leave Canada by” date. If this date is later than your work permit expiry date, then you may legally remain in Canada as a visitor until this time. You can locate these dates on the bottom of your work permit, as shown in the image below:
I missed the deadline to submit my online work permit application to IRCC, but I still want to continue working at my camp. What can I do?
If you would still like to continue working at your camp, then you will need to travel to a U.S. land border with the necessary work permit paperwork Camp Canada has provided you with before your “Must Leave Canada by” date in order to apply for and obtain your work permit.
Please be advised that in this circumstance, you will be applying for a NEW work permit and your new contract dates MUST fall within the majority of the summer months. Issuing your work permit is up to the Immigration Officer’s discretion and it is not guaranteed.
*Please get in touch with workpermits@campcanada.ca for more information if you missed the deadline to submit your application and would still like to continue working at your camp.
