I am a Canadian Citizen, do I need a work permit?
If you are a Canadian citizen, you will not require a Canadian work permit to participate in the program. You will need a valid Canadian passport to travel to Canada.
Additionally, if you are a Canadian citizen you should already have a SIN and you may just need to reapply for an updated number. Before you leave for Canada, please gather all of the necessary documentation for reapplying for your SIN. You can find a list here by clicking "You are applying for yourself" then "You are a Canadian citizen" and then "online."
This will present you with a list of documents you will need.
You can find more information about travelling as a dual citizen here.
I already have a Canadian visa or work permit
If you already have a valid Canadian work permit, fantastic! We can still work with you to find the most suitable camp placement. Depending on the type of work permit you have, you may still need to apply for a new work permit to work at camp.
Contact communitysuccess@campcanada.ca for more information on how this changes the process for you.
Can I use my work permit for a different job in Canada?
There are different types of work permits in Canada. If you have an open work permit, such as an IEC, you can use this to work for different employers. However, if you have a closed work permit, this is specifically linked to your camp employer and does not authorize you to work for another employer in Canada.
Can I apply for the Camp Canada program if I have an IEC working holiday permit?
Yes, you can apply for the Camp Canada program if you have an IEC Working Holiday permit. Please let us know if you plan on using your IEC Work Permit for the program.
Alternatively, you can wait to activate your IEC after your camp placement has finished, and use your Camp Counsellor work permit for the summer season. This is favourable if you are looking to get as much time as possible out of your IEC.
You can contact the work permit team if you have any other questions: workpermits@campcanada.ca
Can I apply for the IEC working holiday permit when I'm in Canada?
Yes, this is possible. You do not need to be in your home country when applying for the IEC. However, due to COVID-19 restrictions, there may be challenges and adjustments to the process that we cannot predict.
We encourage anyone interested in the IEC program to research their options here.
