How much will the course cost?
The qualification cost portion of the course will be covered by your camp, as per the qualifications program agreement. If your course takes place in a host city, or at a different camp, you will cover the cost of room and board for the duration of your course. This depends on which hostel you will be staying in, and can range from $35 to $45 per night.
If you do a course in Toronto, Camp Canada will cover the cost of transport to and from the course each day.
Can I use my Canadian certification when I go home?
The Canadian Bronze Cross certification and National Lifeguard certification are recognized by the International Life Saving Federation. You will have to convert these qualifications to an international qualification. You will have to check to see if your home country is also a member of the federation and whether or not they will accept the international conversion.
You can find more information about converting qualifications here.
Can I use my international certification at camp?
The Canadian Lifesaving Society does not recognize international certifications and there are no direct Canadian equivalents to the National Lifeguarding certification.

How much training will I need to do?
This depends on your current swimming abilities and will differ from person to person. Depending on the course you are completing, you will be required to carry out a timed swim and some other tasks.
When you complete your swim survey, you will get a response regarding your results, and this will provide an indication of which areas could do with more practice.
It is important to do your swim test as early as possible, so we can determine how much training you will need to do, and this will also allow for more time to make improvements.
The Swim Test & Survey
The purpose of the swim survey is to assess your swimming ability and to ensure that you will be capable of passing the course when you arrive in Canada.
It's really important to test out the skills listed in the survey and to be honest when you answer the survey questions. The earlier you provide your survey answers, the more guidance and support we can provide if you need to improve in some areas.
If you are doing one of our courses, you will be able to find a link to the survey in the Events section of your application.
